Okushiga Kogen Resort is located in Shiga Kogen, the largest snow resort in Japan. The history of Shiga Kogen goes back to 1946 when the first chair lift in the region was constructed. Over 60 years has been passed since that first development, Shiga Kogen has now grown to consist of 21 ski fields with 66 lifts and gondolas, and more than 80 unique courses. 

With its long history and large size, abundant powder snow and a wide variety of courses, Shiga Kogen was honored to host the Alpine Ski Giant Slalom and Slalom competition during the Nagano Olympic Games held in 1998.  

Most of the ski fields in Shiga Kogen allow skiers and snowboarders to enjoy their sports on the same courses, but in the Okushiga Kogen field no snowboarding is allowed. Okushiga Kogen is the ultimate destination for serious skiers.

• Courses are laid on the South and North Slope of Mt. Yakebitai which has an elevation of 2009 meters. 
• There are 5 chair lifts and 1 gondola in Okushiga Kogen connecting 9 courses.
• Terrain difficulty: beginner 20%, intermediate 60%, and advanced 20%.
• Courses are located at elevations between 1,500 and 2,000 meters.
• The high elevation allows the north-facing courses to maintain soft, powdery snow conditions.
• Long season - from December through early May.
• Breathtaking view from each course.
• No snowboarders.

Okushiga Kogen is well known as a ski resort, but it is also in all respects an ideal summer resort.

• More than 20 nature trekking courses including courses suitable for beginners and courses for experts in Shiga Kogen.
• Okushiga Kogen Golf Course, which has 6 holes, is located on the foot of Mt. Yakebitai.
• Mountain bike riding, bike rental is available at Okushiga Kogen Hotel.
• The fishing season begins in mid April and ends at the end of September.
• Tennis court located in front of the hotel. Racket, shoes, and ball rental are available at the hotel.
• Group trekking tours and private tour guides are available.
